Step 1

 

 

Below is a demonstration on how to use spreadsheets in Google Documents

 

 

  • Enter all the labels, values and formulas (Steps 2 and 3 below) before formatting the workbook

 

 

  • Note that the label 'Population at risk' has been entered into C5
  • You need to enter 1,2,3 as labels - type '1' to do this. In the table an economic status of '1' means first class passengers, '2' means second class and '3' means third class.

     

     Step 2

     

    • Enter the formula =B7+C7 into D7
    • Copy this formula down to the range D8:D10
    • Enter the formula =SUM(D7:D10) into D11
    • Copy the formulas in D7:D10 to G7:G10
    • To calculate the number of male deaths per hundred males at risk, enter the formula =E7/B7*100 into H7
    • Copy the formula = F7/C7*100 across to I7
    • Select H7:H10 and copy down to I7:I10
    • Format the range I7:I10 to zero decimal places by selecting Edit I Format I Rounded  

     

     Step 3

    • Write down the formulas required in the cells J7:J11 and B11:I11  

     

    Step 4

    • Format the worksheet as above.
    • To apply cell borders select Edit I border
    • Select the required boarder style
